TOP 10 BIBLE MOVIES OF ALL TIME!!!

February 27, 2004

The problem  with Bible movies -- other than being Bible movies -- is that sometimes the desire for piety trumps the need for entertainment.  So I've tried to blend in some less-than traditional Bible movies that recognize that movies are, fundamentally, supposed to entertain us, not just inspire us.  So here are my votes for the Top 10 Bible Movies of All Time!

Ben-Hur (1959):

Still in the Apocrypha:

= Cotton Patch Gospel (1988)
= Dracula 2000 (2000): Admittedly a weird choice, but Judas Iscariot as Dracula is sort of an interesting concept.
= Frailty (2001): Not much of the Bible, but plenty on demons and avenging angels. A truly creepy movie, not for everyone.
= Godspell (1973)
= The Gospel of John (2003)
= Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
= The Prince of Egypt (1998)
= The Prophecy (1995)
= Quo Vadis? (1951)
