TOP 10 DEVIL MOVIES
OF
ALL TIME!!!
September 29, 2006
So why, pray tell, would a fine
Christian show such as Mr. Hewitt's debase itself by doing a list
of the Top 10 Devil Movies of All Time? Well, for one thing,
Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela, compared
our president to the devil -- sulphur and all. And if
that wasn't bad enough, Jerry Falwell in the same week said that
nothing could energize his followers as much as Hillary Clinton
running for President -- not
even if Lucifer ran. And besides, it's fun and one we
haven't done.

Bedazzled
(1967): A very funny movie starring Dudley Moore
as a worker in a small restaurant who is desperate to
woo the beautiful waitress Margaret -- and who better
to help him than the devil (Peter Cook)? Or, if you insist, the inferior Brendan
Fraser/Elizabeth Hurley version of Bedazzled |

|
Devil's Advocate
(1997): Keanu Reeves stars as a young lawyer
who takes a job with an upscale law firm, chaired by
the devil (Al Pacino, in one of his best chew-the-scenery
performances). But then again, what large law
firm isn't run by the devil? |

|
The Prophecy
(1995): One of my all-time favorite cheesy movies.
Christopher Walken stars as the Angel Gabriel,
with Viggo Mortensen as a very creepy devil. |

|
The Omen
(1976): Okay, so maybe the actual devil isn't
in this movie. But you've got the Antichrist,
don't ya? A truly scary movie. |

|
The Devil & Daniel Webster
(1941): One of the best movies of 1941, upstaged
by Citizen Kane (as it should be). A down and
out farmer (Edward Arnold) makes a deal with Mr. Scratch
(John Huston) for seven years of good harvests. But
when the devil comes to collect.... Huston was
nominated for Best Actor, and well deserved it. |

|
Constantine
(2005): The best anti-smoking movie ever made,
with a standout performance by Peter Stormare as the
devil. |
| 4 |

|
Rosemary's Baby
(1968): A breakout scary movie in 1968, with Mia
Farrow as the carrier of the devil's spawn. Still
a pretty creepy movie. |

|
Damn Yankees!
(1958): Ray Walston does a marvelous job as the
devil, but the movie belongs to Gwen Verdon and all
long-suffering baseball fans. |
| 2 |

|
Cabin in the Sky
(1943): A little known but wonderful movie with
an all-black cast featuring Eddie "Rochester"
Anderson, Lena Horne and Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong,
directed (of course) by the very white Vincente Minelli.
If yo can find it, rent it. |

The Passion of the Christ
(2004): One of the great movies of this century,
and one of the great depictions of the devil. If
you can deal with the blood, and haven't seen it, go
forth and do. |
One prayer short of perdition:
