10. | Galaxy Quest (1999): Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and the ubiquitous Tony Shaloub have a high old time as the stars of a former Star Trek-like show who are reduced to appearances at fan shows. A very funny and enjoyable family movie. | DVD |

9. | Trekkies (1997): Although I usually don't put documentaries on my lists, the bottom half of this list is so lame -- and this documentary so good -- that I had to make an exception. There are just no fans like Star Trek fans, and this film will show you why | DVD |

| 8. | The Fan (1981): Before his Terminator days, Michael Biehn was featured in this movie as a record salesman obsessed with Lauren Bacall who plays -- ta dah!! -- a famous actress. Pretty creepy, but not great. | DVD | |

| 7. | I Wanna Hold Your Hand (1978): Hardly ever seen, and absolutely took a dive at the box office, but a cute little movie. Nancy Allen, Theresa Saldana and (my personal favorite) Wendy Jo Sperber star as high school kids heck-bent on seeing the Beatles make their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Actually comes close to getting the '60's and Beatlemania right. | ||

6. | A Hard Day's Night (1964): Speaking of The Beatles.... | DVD |

5. | Nurse Betty (2000): One of the better movies of 2000, although more-than-a-little grisly at the beginning. Renee Zellweger, a big soap opera fan, goes through some trauma-induced changes that lead her to conclude that her favorite soap, and the doctor (Greg Kinnear) who stars in it, are real. Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock, as the killers hired to get back the loot that she is unknowingly carrying, try to convince her otherwise. | DVD |

|
4. | Almost Famous (2000): Well, no one in this film is exactly an obsessed fan, but there are enough groupies, hangers on and journalists to make it seem so. One of the best movies of 2000, and well worth a look if you haven't seen it. | DVD |
| VHS | |||
|
3. | Misery (1990): This movie is the reason nobody knows nothing about Mr. Hewitt or the Unblinking Eye. Kathy Bates is writer James Caan's "Number 1 Fan!". Kathy Bates won the best actress award from the Academy, and well deserved it. Watch it with someone you love. Just make sure they don't have a sledgehammer. | DVD |

|
2. | Play Misty for Me (1971): Clint Eastwood's first directing job, and what a great start it was. Jessica Walter is the obsessed fan while Clint is the radio DJ of her desires. A truly creepy movie, and the grandmother of all "Why did I get involved with her?" movies. | DVD |

1. | The King of Comedy (1983): Don't let the goofy cover fool you. This is a very creepy film in its own bizarre way. Robert DeNiro plays Rupert Pupkin, frustrated aspiring stand up comic, who believes his only way to the big time is to stalk talk show host Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis). Easily the best performance Jerry Lewis has ever given. | |
